More About Professional Branding

In yesterday’s blog I spoke about Brand-Yourself.com, a website designed to help individuals brand themselves through their websites and other marketing tools. Today I’d like to recognize twenty-five-year-old Dan Schawbel who’s been labeled by the New York Times as a “personal branding guru”. Dan recently wrote a book, “2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success”, discussing the importance of personal branding and the benefit of establishing credibility as an expert in your field.

OnPenelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist site Dan recently listed an article on “Why Generation Y is better than everyone else at marketing themselves.”

Of course the main reason is that Generation Y grew up with all of the the technology that is now used in developing a professional brand and they could not imagine life without social networking sites, such as: LinkedIn,
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. The enormous changes that have taken place in technology over the course of the past 15 years have created a huge advantage for current college students and new graduates who are now entering the job market.

Many businesses look for young talent to get the current in the technologically advance marketplace. Many employers in business today who may run a successful business also understand that they must get current with technology by hiring on people who are more technologically savvy than their current senior executive staff. This is where personal branding comes in and the importance of developing a presence that focuses on your personal talents and expertise that employers are searching for in their job candidates.

To learn more about personal branding and to hear more about what Dan has to say, you can find a lot of information listed on his blog at personalblog.com.
