If you are thinking that you’d like to do an internship abroad, it’s important to start doing your research as early as possible to help identify those opportunities that are most appealing to you.

It is recommended that you give yourself at least six to eight months to prepare yourself for an internship abroad when researching internships on your own. When utilizing internship placement programs the deadlines vary and you will need to plan carefully to meet all of the requirements set forth by individual organizations.

Students interested in doing an internship abroad for the summer will often visit my office as late in the semester as March or April. Although they may not be surprised, they are often disappointed when they find out that it is too late to procure an
internship abroad for the coming summer.

Now is a good time to start planning and researching internships abroad if you think that you are interested in doing one for the summer of 2010. Even though the process for finding an internship abroad can be difficult and challenging, most students find it very rewarding and worth the effort.
