Homeless Blogger Snags Internship

By admin On September 3, 2009 Under Internships

Today’s blog could not be topped by anything else than this human interest story on the “The New Face of Homelessness”.  After many twists and turns and fourteen months of being laid off from her $50,000 a year job, Brianna Karp finally landed an internship with E. Jean Carroll, advice columnist, for Elle Magazine, and she starts that internship today.

Even though she thought she had totally blown her chances, Bri will be working to answer emails from readers, helping Ms. Carroll with a book she’s writing, and analyzing data on college students posted on Facebook as well as writing a blog about her life and future.  Read Bri’s story for information on the things you should do and the things you should not do when looking for an internship.

Bri terming herself “homeless, but not helpless,” really won Carroll over.  Interested readers can view the letters that transpired between the homeless blogger and Carroll.  This is an amazing story!  It’s a story about courage, persistence, risking, and winning.  It helps raise the issue of homelessness that exists in our country and offers alternative views to the popular mental health/substance abuse cause that many often believe is the root of the problem. To find out more about Brianna or to contact her directly, you can check her out on Facebook.

For those interested in doing an internship with Elle Magazine, please send your résumé and cover letter to the address below – Attention: Internship Coordinator, or send an e-mail to internships@hfmus.com.
