Tufts University administrators guilty of stealing from college funds

The Boston Globe reported that people serving as both the Director and the Budget and Fiscal Coordinator of Office of Student Activities separately used the organization’s funds for what personal expenses.

In response to an anonymous tip, the internal audit department looked into the matter and discovered the abuse of power committed by each of the former administrators. From 2001 to 2007 Josephine Nealey controlled the bank account for the Office and transfered money from the University’s account to her personal account. The audit found she spent the money at restaurants and even a casino.

Raymond Rodriguez, the Fiscal Coordinator, wrote a check to himself for $100,000 which he subsequently used to pay credit card bills. In addition, he opened credit card account in the name of the University and the then used the cards for personal items.

Considering that the fraud has been going on since 2001, unfortunately the perpetrators cannot use the economy as an excuse for their illegal activity.
