Study Tips for Note-Taking

Put Note-Taking at the top of your study skills list. Keeping a record of information obtained during class is sometimes considered a tedious task. However, it is one of the most important study tips that you should develop.

There are many things you can do to make your educational experience a lot easier and much more pleasant. Read assignments in advance, do your homework, practice sample problems and questions, take notes, and study those notes at regular intervals

Tips for Note-Taking

1. Read assignements ahead of time. You will know what important points the teacher is trying to make and you can write down the more important information.

2. You need to listen to what the teacher is saying. It is impossibelt write everything down. Try to make yourself concentrate on the lecture. It will make it easier to remember important information. Just write down the important things. Develop a shorthand style, but remember what your abbreviations stand for.

3. Do NOT use a tape recorder for your notes. It just means that you will be have to listen to listen to the entire lecture again in order to create your notes. It’s more important to teach yourself to concentrate and focus on the lecture. In time, you will perfect your listening technique.

4. Make sure you write down the key terms and phrases and other important facts emphasied by the teacher.
